This 65-page, soft-cover booklet provides a historical overview of the formation and development of the Anglican Church in the Lake Wakatipu Region of Central Otago, New Zealand. It incorporates the original "A History of the Anglican Church in the Wakatipu, 1863-1982" written by the late Alan De La Mare on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Consecration of the present stone church of St Peter in Queenstown in 1932.
In 2013 the Parish celebrated the 150th anniversary of the building of the first St Peter's wooden church in 1863 and the then Vicar, The Rt Rev Dr David Coles, edited and revised Alan's 1982 work.
This revised and updated edition of our history draws on some archival material previously unavailable, it fills in some gaps and includes many additional photographs.
Thanks be to God for all that had been, and our prayers for God's blessings on all that is yet to be as we continue to live out the Gospel in this beautiful part of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Your special copy of "This Recent Wilderness" is signed by former Bishop of Christchurch and Vicar of Wakatipu, The Rt Rev Dr David Coles AND the incumbent Vicar of Wakatipu, The Rev Dr David Wright
