A Service for the third Sunday of Easter
26th April 2020

With our communal worship services currently "on hold", in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, what follows is a contemporary service which, I pray, you can participate in at a time(s) that are convenient to you. This 'service' will take about forty five (45) minutes.

I pray that you will feel called to ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE in this service.

The text that is in reguar typeface (that is what you are reading at the moment) is to be read quietly, while the text that is in bold face (like you are reading right now) is meant to be read aloud.

Oh yes, if you come across LARGE BOLDFACE text ... that is meant to be shouted !

Christ  is Risen .....

He is Risen indeed, Alleluia !

I knew you'd get the idea :)

Call to Worship

Christ is risen!

He is risen indeed, alleluia!

Kia ora, te whānau,
welcome to you my sisters and brothers.

Grace to you and peace from God our Creator,

the love at our beginning and without end, in our midst and with us.

God is with us,
 here we find new life..

Let us give thanks for the coming of God's reign of justice and love.

Jesus Christ is good news for the poor, release for the captives, recovery of sight for the blind, and liberty for those who are oppressed.

Happy are those whose sins are forgiven, whose wrongs are pardoned.
I will confess my sins to the Lord
I will not conceal my wrongdoings.

Pause to give yourself a moment for quiet reflection.

God forgives and heals us
We need your healing merciful God, give us true repentance.
Some sins are plain to us,
some escape us,
some we cannot face.
Forgive us,
set us free to hear your word to us; set us free to serve you
.

Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The Prayer for the Day (Collect)

Let us pray together.

Loving Shepherd: you lead us nowhere you yourself have not been.
Call us by name, lift us high upon your shoulders, and bring us to the fold.
Through Jesus Christ our Liberator, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Pause and Reflect

Just take a moment now to pause. Bow your head, close your eyes.

Reflect upon the fact as we take our walks of life, Jesus walks alongside us. Sometimes we think He is not there. Sometime we forget He is there. Sometimes we don't recognise that He is there. We are all at different stages of our "there and back again" walks with Christ but that doesn't matter ... think about Christ BY YOUR SIDE.

The Apostles Creed

Let us affirm our faith by saying together:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins.
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.   Amen.

The Peace

I say to you:

The Peace of God be with you all.

The Lord's Prayer

Remembering that we are confident to pray this day, and every day, because Jesus Christ has taught us:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.   Amen.

The Grace

May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Love of God, and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you now and always. Amen

A Closing Hymn (Traditional)

Let us continue by watching, and please do feel free to sing along with the beautfully relevant "Just A Closer Walk With Thee."

When you are ready - click the "play" button on the video window, below:

A Closing Hymn (Modern : courtesy of "The Bourbon Street Stompers")

All I can say is that I thank God for the many and varied gifts of song and music that God bestows upon us and WHAT a blessing we have in Joshua's voice and the "Stompers" who surround him.
