A Service for the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost

6th September 2020

At this point in time you may not be able to attend our communal worship services. What follows is a contemporary service for the fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost which, I pray, you can participate in at a time(s) that are convenient to you. This 'service' will take about forty (40) minutes.

I pray you will feel called to ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE in this service.

The text that is in regular typeface (that is what you are reading at the moment) is to be read quietly, while the text that is in bold face (like you are reading right now) is meant to be read aloud.

Opening Hymn

Let us commence our worship by offering ourselves to God as we listen to, and please do feel free to sing or read aloud with the words of the wonderful "The King of Love My Shepherd Is."

Call to Worship

Kia ora, te whānau,
welcome to you my sisters and brothers.

In the name of God: Creator, Redeemer and Giver of life. AMEN.

Grace to you and peace
from God our Creator,
the love at our beginning
and without end,
in our midst and with us.

God is with us,
here we find new Life.

Let us give thanks
for the coming of God’s reign of justice and love.

Jesus Christ is good news for the poor,
release for the captives,
recovery of sight for the blind,
and liberty for those who are oppressed.

Let us pray

Happy are those whose sins are forgiven,
whose wrongs are pardoned.
I will confess my sins to the Lord
I will not conceal my wrongdoings.

Pause to give yourself a moment for quiet reflection.

God forgives and heals us.

We need your healing, merciful God:
give us true repentance.
Some sins are plain to us; some escape us, some we cannot face.
Forgive us; set us free to hear your word to us;
set us free to serve you.

The Sentence for the Day

Do not fear, for I am with you;  do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you.  I will uphold you with my saving right hand.

The Prayer for the Day (Collect)

Let us pray together.

Gracious God, when two or three are gathered in your name you are there.  Ever present with your family, the church.  Give us grace and maturity when we are in conflict.  Help us to listen, to forgive and to live together in mutual love.  Through Jesus Christ our Liberator, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

Pause and Reflect

Just take a moment now to pause. Bow your head, close your eyes.

Reflect upon how, in our lives, we might grow ever better, ever stronger, ever more caring and tolerant in the love that hurts nobody.

An Affirmation of Our Faith

Let us affirm our faith by listening as a "The Apostles Creed" is read to us.

Let us pray together and aloud:

Blessed are you,
God of growth and discovery;
yours is the inspiration
that has altered and changed our lives;
yours is the power that has brought us
to new dangers and opportunities.
Set us, your new creation,
to walk through this new world,
watching and learning,
loving and trusting,
until your kingdom comes.    Amen
.

The Peace

The peace of God be with you all.
In God's justice is our peace.

E te whānau, Brothers and sisters, Christ calls us to live in unity.
We seek to live in the Spirit of Christ.

I say to you all:

The Peace of Christ be always with you.

And also with you.

The Lord's Prayer

Remembering that we are confident to pray this day, and every day, because Jesus Christ has taught us:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.   Amen.

The Risen Lord Christ

May the Risen Lord Christ turn His face towards you. May the Risen Lord Christ cause His light to shine upon you. May the Risen Lord Christ grant you His peace. Amen

A Closing Hymn

Let us continue by watching, and please do feel free to sing along with the congregation at St Martin's In The Fields, London, England who remind us that we are all one because "In Christ There Is No east or West".
